Free demo and paid intro
The free demo, the intro offer, how translation minutes are counted, and exactly what happens when the intro ends.
You can hear Akume work for free in a live demo before paying anything, and an intro lets you try it in your own meetings before a plan starts.
The free demo
The demo is part of the signup quiz and comes before any account, plan or card. Your browser asks for the microphone, you say a few sentences, and you hear them come back translated, spoken aloud and written out, the way the other side of a call would get them. It takes about a minute and costs nothing. To start it, open the free demo.
The demo shows what the translation sounds like; it does not join a real meeting. To bring the translator into your own Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams calls, pick one of the intros below.
The intro offer
The quiz shows the intro available to you. Its length, its minutes and its price are on the checkout screen before you pay:
- A few days with translation minutes. The intro gives you a short period and a minute allowance to try Akume in real meetings.
- Then the plan. When the intro ends, the Starter plan shown at checkout continues, with minutes added every billing period, until you cancel.
The intro fee is charged at checkout. If Akume isn't for you, write to support@akume.ai within 7 days of the purchase and the team refunds the intro fee, once per account; see the Refund Policy. Cancelling, or leaving the minutes unused, does not refund it by itself. There is one intro per account. Other plans (Starter billed yearly, and Pro) are charged in full at checkout, with no intro and no trial. The intro minutes are meant for a real meeting, so put them on a call already in the calendar early in the intro rather than on its last day.
How translation minutes are counted
Minutes are counted while the translator is in your call, and the language being spoken is never counted: each minute of the call uses one minute fewer than the number of languages selected. Two languages spend one minute per minute, three spend two, and so on. This is the single most important thing to know before you plan a meeting around the intro.
Worked example. A session started with two languages spends 1 minute for every minute the translator is in the call, so each intro minute covers about one minute of meeting. Add a third language and the same minutes last half as long.
Splitting the intro minutes runs into a floor: a session will not start unless the balance holds at least 5 minutes of the call (5 minutes with two languages, 10 with three), so what is left after the first call can be too thin to open a second one.
What happens when the intro ends
Unless you cancel first, Starter becomes active when the intro ends - to the hour from checkout - and is charged to the card on file at the price shown at checkout. Nothing else changes: same account, same settings, more minutes, and the plan can be cancelled at any time afterwards.
If the minutes run out before the intro ends
Running out of minutes stops translation, not the subscription. When the balance reaches zero the translator carries on into a grace allowance of 10 billed minutes (about ten more minutes of call with two languages, five with three), so the call is not cut off mid-sentence. Then the translator leaves the meeting and the session ends.
Starting another session takes more than one spare minute: Akume refuses to start one unless the balance holds at least 5 minutes of the call, which is 5 minutes for a two-language call and 10 for three.
The intro keeps running on its own schedule regardless. The intro period still runs out, and Starter still activates and is charged unless you cancel before then. An empty minute balance cancels nothing on its own.
Cancelling before the plan is charged
Cancel any time before the intro ends and Starter is never charged. Cancelling does not refund the intro fee by itself; to get it back, write to support within 7 days of the purchase. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the intro, and until then the intro minutes remain usable. The path is short: Account Settings › Manage billing opens the billing portal of our payment provider in a new tab, and the subscription is cancelled there. Every step is written out in How to cancel your subscription. A different plan can be started from the pricing page in the app later; it is charged in full at checkout.
Once you are on a paid plan
- The included minutes are counted exactly the same way: the language being spoken is not counted, so 2 languages use 1 minute per minute of the call, 3 languages 2.
- Minutes come with the plan and are added at the start of every billing period, and unused minutes stay on the account. On any paid plan, Starter or Pro, you can also buy minute packs in the app (100 minutes for $20, up to 2,000 minutes at once). Packs are not offered during the intro or a free trial: they become available after the first full charge for the plan. A running plan cannot be switched to a larger tier in place: cancel the current plan (it stays active until the paid period ends) and start the larger one from the pricing page in the app once it has ended. A later subscription starts without another intro and is charged in full at checkout.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel: monthly, every 3 months or annually, depending on the plan.
The binding version of all of this lives in the Terms of Use, together with the Refund Policy. If something about your intro looks wrong, write to support@akume.ai the day you notice it. If the plan charge is close, cancel first and write afterwards: cancelling leaves the intro minutes usable to the end, and nothing is lost by doing it in that order. A free trial started before the intros existed keeps the terms it started with.
